Craft Projects for Grandchildren and Grandparents

Craft ideas for grandparents and grandchildren are a great way to break that age barrier. Craft projects are a great way for grandparents and grandchildren to interact, show their passions, learn something, and best of all get to know each other! Children who interact with people of all ages develop better social skills, achieve higher in school, and generally are more successful. Seniors who stay active and involved tend to suffer from depression less, achieve better overall health, and often have a better outlook on life during their golden years. Here are some craft ideas that are perfect for grandparents and grandkids to do together. Adopted grandparents and grandkids should also do these craft projects!

Building a birdhouse is great craft for both grandparents and grandkids. If you have a skilled grandparent they can do all of the woodcutting. If you need to though, there are many sources for precut birdhouse kits on the market. They use pegs to hold the birdhouses together, so no nails are needed either. Both grandchildren and grandparents can enjoy painting and designing the look of the birdhouse. Best of all one this craft project is finished they can spend time together looking for a place to hand the birdhouse, choose what type of birdseed to use, and spend time recording what birds visit their house. If you have a grandparent living in assisted living this is a great craft project to hang outside of their window. Children may have to go to school, but the grandparent can check in on the birds as they visit the craft project. Best of all they will think of their precious grandchild every time they look at it.

Collages are an inexpensive and fun craft project that grandparents and grandkids can do together. This could be a really neat craft project if you can find vintage magazines from the grandparents hay day. Combing styles and photos from years gone by with current pictures is a fun way to see how similar and different their eras are. Grandparents and grandkids can easily use any of the materials needed to create a collage. Best of all if your grandparent has limited mobility they can work from almost anywhere they are comfortable. This fun craft project would make a great show and tell item for children to take to school.

Scrap booking is an ideal craft project well suited for both grandparents and grandkids. We all have stacks and stacks of family photos in boxes. While you are off busy at work let your parents and kids work on scrapbooks to display these photos. If the children are too young to use scissors and the grandparents have limited use of their fingers they can still accomplish this craft project. Pre cut scrapbook details are easy to decorate with and only require being able to glue them to the paper. This couldnt be any easier. Glue sticks are ideal for small grandchildren and grandparents alike. On the other hand, older children and grandparents could get really involved and make extremely detailed scrapbooks. Scrap booking is a great way for grandparents and grandkids to reconnect, walk though their lives together, and create something that the entire family can enjoy.
